Biografische gegevens

De theoloog Van Boetzelaer was van 1906 tot 1918 de eerste zendingsconsul. Het op aandringen van het Indische gouvernement ingestelde zendingsconsulaat moest de belangen van de protestantse zending in Nederlands-Indië behartigen. In zijn studententijd was hij al actief lid van het Utrechtse Studenten-Zendingsgezelschap ‘Elthetho hè basileia sou’. Na zijn terugkeer in 1918 heeft hij tal van functies bekleed op het gebied van de zending. Zo was hij voorzitter van het Ned. Zendingsgenootschap, het Sangihe-Talaut Comité, het Comité Depok, de Zendingsstudieraad, de Ned. Zendingsraad en de Oecumenische Raad. Naast andere publicaties schreef hij het belangrijke overzichtswerk De Protestantsche Kerk in Nederlands-Indie. Haar ontwikkeling van 1620-1939 (Den Haag, 1947).

The theologian Van Boetzelaer was the first Mission Consul from 1906 to 1918. The Mission Consulate was instituted under pressure of the Indian government and was intended to promote the interests of the Protestant mission in the Netherlands Indies. In his student days he was already an active member of the Utrecht Student Society 'Elthetho hè basileia sou'. After his return in 1918 he held numerous functions in the mission field. For example, he was chairman of the Dutch Missionary Society, the Sangihe-Talaut Committee, the Committee Depok, the Mission Study Council, the Dutch Mission Council and the Ecumenical Council. Besides other publications he wrote the important survey

In de laatste ordening van het archief van de Raad voor de Zending is geen apart persoonsarchief voor Boetzelaer aangemaakt. In vorige versies was dat wel het geval. Volgens de gids van Jacquet, Sources of the History of Asia and Oceania in the Netherlands. Part II: Sources 1796-1949, bevonden zich hierin de volgende stukken:

 

Originating from him are letters and reports of his journey, together with J.W. Gunning, around protestant mission stations in the Dutch East Indies, description of a feast of the death at Galela, notes about the Kakihan alliance in Ceram, papers about religious education at the protestant missionary schools, papers when he was a member of the chamber about colonial policy, texts of causeries, photograhps, i.a. of the Christelijke Persvereeniging (Christian Press Association) in the Dutch East Indies 1913.

 

Deze stukken bevinden zich uiteraard nog steeds in het archief van de Raad voor de Zending en zijn door digitale doorzoekbaarheid eenvoudig op te sporen.

When the archive of the Council of the Mission was arranged for the last time, a separate, personal Boetzelaer archive was not created. In earlier versions of the inventory this had been the case. According to the Jacquet guide, Sources of the History of Asia and Oceania in the Netherlands. Part II: Sources 1796-1949, the following documents can be found:

'Originating from him are letters and reports of his journey, together with J.W. Gunning, around Protestant mission stations in the Dutch East Indies, description of a feast of the death at Galela, notes about the Kakihan alliance in Ceram, papers about religious education at the Protestant missionary schools, papers when he was a member of the chamber about colonial policy, texts of causeries, photographs, i.e. of the Christelijke Persvereeniging (Christian Press Association) in the Dutch East Indies 1913.'

These documents are of course still present in the archive of the Council for the Mission and can be easily traced digitally.
