1428-1588: 1588-1795: 1795-1813: 1813-1861: The Compendium of office holders and civil servants 1428-1861 is a searchable database, accessible via the Internet, that contains information about the highest-ranking officeholders and members of the most important institutions of a representative, administrative and judicial nature on present-day Dutch territory. This systematic survey of more than 12,000 individuals and approximately 25,000 official appointments is intended to serve as a general reference work as well as a starting point for analytical research into how institutions and politics operated in practice. The researcher can use the Compendium of office holders and civil servants 1428-1861 to establish who was involved in politics, governance and the judiciary, to measure the level of continuity with regard to holding office, and to trace the trajectory of individual careers. The Compendium can be searched using the menu at the left. The introduction provides a more detailed explanation of the way in which the publication is structured.
